Hello, I’m Jane Shin (신재인)!
I’m a writer, director and creative producer, specializing in artist relations. As a first generation Korean American, I’m passionate about amplifying stories of underrepresented voices and emerging artists and creatives. I’m also the creator and host of Progression, a podcast centered on exploring mental health, personal development, and spirituality through conversations with artists and more.
I currently work at Amazon Music, writing, directing and producing video content for artists. I’m proud of conceptualizing and leading the Clio Award and Webby Awards Nominated film, Message in the Music, featuring Audrey Nuna, Deb Never, Joyce Wrice and Maliibu Miitch, as well as Shapeshifter, a film featuring artist Luna Li. Also, a fun moment was when a clip from an interview I did with Saweetie went viral as a meme on Twitter.
Prior to Amazon Music, I was a writer for RapCaviar video content on Spotify’s Originals Team, conceptualizing and writing treatments for artists, from 6LACK to Young M.A. I also freelance write.
Before Spotify, I was at SoundCloud for five years where I helped drive its establishment and growth as an artist-friendly platform. As SoundCloud's first U.S. Community Manager, I led community engagement programs from 2011-2013. From 2014-2016, I led Artist Relations on the Music Content team. My most fulfilling work has been championing and supporting artists and producers early in their careers like Little Simz, Take A Daytrip and more.
My first gig post-college was directing website builds and managing online fan clubs for clients in music and entertainment, like The Killers and RapRadar.
I spent 10 formative years in the Bay Area before returning to my hometown of Los Angeles in September 2016. To document the transition, I started JANEWAVE, a personal newsletter to reflect on my journey and share self-care tips and music recommendations. The newsletter has since expanded to the blog on this website and Progression the podcast. Empathy and thoughtfulness are core to my writing, work, and being.
